Auto Insurance
There are many factors that can affect your insurance premium, unfortunately only some of which you can control. Auto Insurance is designed to help cover potential auto-related damages, loss and injuries. Auto insurance has been around since the birth of the automobile to protect both the at fault motorist and third parties. The number of auto insurance companies able to offer auto insurance quotes will vary depending on your personal circumstances. Cover will normally include damage to property, vehicle collision damage, and medical payments.
Liability
Liability insurance (both bodily injury and property damage) is the foundation of most auto insurance policies. Liability Insurance: This coverage protects the owner against losses from legal liability arising from bodily injury or property damages caused by an accident. Every state that requires auto insurance will require the purchase of property damage liability, but Florida is the only state that requires auto insurance but does not require personal injury liability.
Collision
Collision coverage is usually the most expensive component of auto insurance. Neither collision nor comprehensive insurance is a legal requirement of any US state, but some lenders may require the purchase of collision and comprehensive insurance in any loan agreement. In the event of an accident, collision coverage will pay for repairs to your vehicle up to the to the value of the vehicle before the accident.
Fault
If you are at fault in any auto accident, the liability insurance will pay for the personal injury, property damage and legal expenses caused to others in the accident. You will have to cover any excess, and you will likely lose any no-claims discounts unless you have paid for a protected no-claims policy.
Premiums
Insurance companies differ on which criteria are weighed heaviest when determining each vehicle premium. Premiums will depend on;
- make, model and age of your car
- your age
- any motoring convictions
- your postal/zip code
To keep your premiums low, select as high a deductible/excess as you feel comfortable paying out of pocket. Large metropolitan areas often have higher vehicle crime and accident rates, both of which affect your premiums.
